How should you use this product?

Must be applied by an adult for children  under 16 years of age.
– Cover the sore with a thin layer of product using the disposable applicator. A temporary tingling or burning sensation may be felt on application.
– Leave to dry for approximately 1-2 minutes to allow the film to form. Drying time depends on the amount of product applied.
– A transparent film forms over your cold sore.
– Reapply up to 2-4 times as soon as the film no longer covers the cold sore.
– Continue treatment until fully healed.
– This filmogel can be used from the very first symptoms (tingling, itching, burning) to limit the development  of the cold sore.

What is oral herpes?

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and typically appear around the mouth and on the lips, causing swelling, redness, tingling, itching, and burning.

Frequently asked questions

What are the contraindications for URGO Filmogel® cold sore?

Do not apply in the following cases:

On cold sores with a diameter exceeding 1 cm that require medical advice.
Bacterial infection and/or risk of bacterial infection (impetigo).
Immunosuppression (related to a chronic disease and/or chemotherapy).
Atopic eczema during a flare-up.
Allergy to any of the ingredients.
In the absence of studies in pregnant or breastfeeding women, use of this product is not recommended.

What precautions should you take when using this product?


For skin application only.
May sting transiently on application.
Do not use in children aged under 6.
Do not apply near the eyes.
Avoid any risk of contact with the eyes. Irritating to eyes.
Close the bottle tightly after use.
After opening, use within 6 months.
Do not reuse the applicator - single use only.
Do not swallow.
Do not smoke during application, before the product has dried completely or near the open bottle.
Flammable in liquid form.
Keep out of reach of children.
There is no need to remove the residual film when reapplying. If necessary,  remove it by reapplying product and wiping immediately  with a dressing.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if in doubt or if:
– you have more than 6 herpes outbreaks per year,
– there is no improvement after 7 days.
Do not exceed the expiry date shown on the packaging.
Store away from flames or sources of sparks at below 40°C

What does URGO Filmogel® cold sore contain?

URGO Filmogel® cold sore, consists of a 3 mL bottle and 24 disposable applicators.

Can another treatment be used alongside  URGO Filmogel® for treating cold sores?

No - combining treatments  is not recommended as  possible interactions are unknown. URGO Filmogel® cold sore treats the cold sore from the first symptoms through to full resolution, day and night. When reapplied as directed, noadditional  treatment is necessary.

How long can the URGO Filmogel® cold sore bottle be kept?

URGO Filmogel® cold sore has a shelf life of 36 months from manufacture and 6 months after opening.
